Welcome to this place for sharing my music. To represent these songs, I’m using an image of a tree and its roots. As trees grow from unseen roots, for me, songs also often grow out of hidden places. Making songs can be an underground process that happens behind closed doors and draws from undisclosed experiences, thoughts, and feelings. The fruit from this work, however, can then be shared with the world.
Also, like sprouting seedlings, initial song ideas can be delicate and die easily if not nurtured. Some ideas grow vigorously, some don’t get far, and others can take years to mature; early on, it often isn’t clear either which ones will take root. At the end of it all, you may be left with some majestic trees, some false starts, and everything in between.
The growing tree also represents to me the idea of the growth mindset (thanks to Carol Dweck’s book Mindset). Viewing making songs as a process to learn and grow in has been a helpful perspective.
These songs are homemade, being self-recorded and produced. Also, I enjoy hearing the stories behind other peoples’ songs and want to share some of mine here as well. Enjoy.
