When I first set out to learn guitar, I wasn’t planning on playing classical guitar. In fact, I probably wasn’t even much aware of the genre’s existence. Around that time however, my brother gave me a classical guitar book for Christmas and I enjoyed playing it. Among various composers in that book, the music of Francisco Tárrega particularly resonated with me. In making classical guitar recordings, one of my desires is to share some of this music that I enjoy with others, especially that of Francisco Tárrega.
Classical guitar is usually played on guitars with nylon strings, but when making this recording, I only had a steel-stringed guitar. Because constraints can also be sources of creativity, it was interesting to see how things took shape from those circumstances.
If you want to check out more Francisco Tárrega, this is one album I enjoy (I’d be interested to know of any good recordings out there too!).
