The initial idea for this song came from an online electronic-music class I watched by deadmou5. One way he mentioned to create a song was by, besides including other things, having one note play continually for the entire song. While experimenting with that by playing a synthesizer to a drum beat, I happened upon alternating between two notes, and at that point, the song’s essence was born. I next fleshed out the rest of the music over a few months. I then went to write lyrics and it was during a time it felt like obstacles kept popping up in the way of creating music. I decided to turn that frustration into a source of material by dedicating the song to dealing with obstacles—and from there came the words to Breaking Through.
